Aikapyörä – The Wheel of Time (Sibelius Akatemia, 2013)
The Wheel of Time by Finnish accordionist and composer Anne-Mari Kivimäki presents a collection of solo accordion, vocals and electronic beats, textures and effects inspired by folk music and minimalism.
Anne-Mari Kivimäki used Russian two-row Notka accordions plus her own voice. Eero Grundström, who combines folk music and electronics, provided the sound design.
The music selection on The Wheel of Time was collected and arranged from the Suistamo series first concert The Wheel of Time and the Groan Box that was premiered in April 2013. The Suistamo series is a part of the artistic doctoral thesis that Anne-Mari Kivimäki is doing at the Sibelius Academy (The University of the Arts Helsinki) Folk Music Department under the title Suistamo – The Laboratory of Tradition.
