Les Allumés du Chalumeau (Aremorica Records, 2013)

François Robin and Ronan Le Gouriérec play traditional Breton instruments in an unexpected fashion. Les Allumés du Chalumeau presents François Robin on the veuze (a Breton bagpipe) and electronics and Ronan Le Gouriérec on baritone saxophone and the bombarde, a popular Breton double-reed instrument.

The two musicians perform original music, intertwining the bombarde, saxophone and veuze. It’s certainly not traditional folk music. Although there are folk music elements, the focus is on contemporary exploration, mixing folk, avant-garde experimentation and improvisation.

Les Allumés du Chalumeau takes the bombarde and veuze into uncharted territory with a multi-genre approach and an unexpected array of sounds.
