Canadian Artist Tanya Tagaq Wins Galaxie Rising Stars Award

This year’s Mundial Montreal Galaxie Rising Stars Award went to Tanya Tagaq, who performed at L’Astral as part of the Women of the World showcase. Her show, with musical soundscapes accompanying the film Nanook of the North captivated the audience.

Each year, radio network Galaxie offers a $3000 bursary and airplay to one lucky Mundial performer as part of its Rising Stars program.

Tagaq’s outstanding albums include Sinaa, Auk – Blood, and the live album, Anuraaqtuq, Inuktitut for “Wind.”

This year, world music expo Mundial Montreal hosted more industry professionals than ever before, with 220 delegates convening in Montreal. This year organizers brought presenters from France, Belgium, Germany, and Portugal.
