World Music organization WOMEX announced yesterday the winner of the WOMEX 2012 Label Award. Lusafrica, an African music record company based in France, will be receiving the WOMEX Label Award on Sunday morning, October 21 st, 2012, at the Awards Ceremony accompanied by a WOMEX Networking Breakfast, both open to WOMEX delegates only.
Lusafrica was founded by Cape Verdian music producer José Da Silva. Some of the major artists produced by Lusafrica include: Cesaria Evora, Lura, Tcheka, Bonga, Teofilo Chantre, Pierre Akendengue and Boubacar Traore.
Created as a joint project with the World Music Charts Europe (WMCE), the selection for the WOMEX Label Award is made using the monthly charts of 48 radio broadcasters from 25 countries.
