Living Colurs (Rain Tree Records)

Quebec-born multi-instrumentalist Nadaka has spent over three decades in India, particularly in Auroville. In this fine fusion album he plays with the five Basavaraj brothers, sons of Indian flautist Sudharshana Rao Basavaraj. The Chennai-based lineup includes Bala Sai on flute, Ragavendra on violin, Sivaramakrishna on sitar, Ganesh on tabla and Ramakrishna on mridangam and kanjira.

The album was recorded at Rain Tree Studio, Auroville. The 6 tracks are divided into a total of 18 items, making for almost an hour of fine immersive listening. Our favourite track is Chakra, especially the guitar solo with kanjira. In sum, a splendid fusion of Indian classical and Western music.
