Grammy-winning Klezmer band The Klezmatics will be performing on Monday, December 19, 2011, 8:00pm at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
The Klezmatics is one of the most popular and successful acts in the Klezmer music circuit. The current line-up of the band features three original members: Lorin Sklamberg (lead vocals, accordion, guitar, piano), Frank London (trumpet, keyboards, vocals) and Paul Morrissett (bass, tsimbl, vocals), together with longtime members Matt Darriau (kaval, clarinet, saxophone, vocals) and Lisa Gutkin (violin, vocals).
To mark its silver anniversary, the band recently released Live at Town Hall. This is their first self-produced live CD. The double album captures the Klezmatics’ sold-out concert at the storied New York venue. The band played a career-spanning setlist, assisted by a star-studded roster of special guests including two of the band’s former clarinetists, David Krakauer and Margot Leverett and recent vocal collaborators Susan McKeown and Joshua Nelson. The audience was treated to a musical journey, traveling from the band’s earliest days (“Dzhankoye,” “Fun tashlikh”) through newly-composed songs featuring the lyrics of American folk music legend Woody Guthrie.
The Walt Disney Concert Hall is located downtown (111 S. Grand Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90012) and serves as the winter home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. The LA Phil features a range of programming and array of world-renown classical musicians during these fall and winter months
