Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara has released a music video for the song ‘Kanou’, which is part of her album Kanou out now World Circuit Records. The video was directed and edited by Giorgio Testi.
The EP is a forerunner to her album ‘Fatou’ which will be released on 19 September 2011 (29 September in France). The EP is a blend of Wassulu music, blues and folk music. It features 4 tracks and will be available digitally and on a limited number of CDs at Fatoumata Diawara’s live performances.
Born in Ivory Coast, raised in Mali, now based in Paris, and still only 29, Fatou has had a life covering a whole gamut of contemporary African experience: fighting parental opposition to her artistic ambitions and the cultural prejudice faced by women throughout Africa, winning success as an actress in film and theatre, before finding her feet in the medium she was always destined to make her own: music.
