Various Artists – Reggae Gold (Hip-O Records/Universal)
This hefty double album packs 30 tracks of fine reggae music, especially from the early years of this globe-spanning musical genre originating from Jamaica. Bob Marley is not featured in this compilation (there are others focusing on this superstar’s prodigious work), but it includes fine gems such as ‘Vietnam’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Country Boy’ by The Heptones.
Our other picks include ‘Man in the Hills’ by Burning Spear and ‘Love Has Found Its Way’ by Dennis Brown. UK-based reggae band Black Uhuru’s track Mondays is included as well. In sum, a great trip down memory lane across the reggae spectrum.
