Ana Moura - Coliseu
Ana Moura

Coliseu (World Village 460183, 2011)

Ana Moura is one of the leading figures in the current fado scene. For those of us who have not had the opportunity to see her live, Coliseu provides the opportunity to listen to some of her finest moments on stage. The 15 track albums includes live performances at two of Portugal’s legendary venues, the Coliseu do Porto and Lisbon’s Coliseu dos Recreios.

The concerts were recorded in June 2008 and her performances became a sensation. Universal Music Portugal released a DVD of the concerts and now the music album is available in North America through World village.

Ana Moura plays an intimate form of fado, without the lavish arrangements that other performers use. She is accompanied by the fabulous guitar melodies of virtuoso musician José Manuel Neto, the acoustic guitar of José Elmiro Nunes, and the acoustic bass of Filipe Larsen.

Ana Moura was bom in Santarem, the bustling capital of the Ribatejo province in the center of Portugal’s heartland on the Tagus River northeast of Lisbon. The city of half a million inhabitants is also one of Portugal’s most historic cities-an ideal place to develop an appreciation for fado. “I’ve been singing fado since I was little, because grew up listening to it at home,” she recalls of her early home life.

Coliseu is a most deeply satisfying and passionate fado album by one of the finest performers in the current fado scene.
