Piping Live! 2010 opens Monday 9 August at 7:30pm with a bang as stalwarts of the Celtic music scene the Battlefield Band take to the stage. Inspired by their rich heritage of Celtic music and fired by the strength of the modern Scottish cultural scene, The Battlefield Band mixes the old songs and tunes with new self-penned material, playing them on a unique fusion of ancient and modern instruments: bagpipes, synthesizers, fiddles, guitars, cittern, bass, whistles, and bouzouki.
Joining them is Seudan, with 6 pipers who play matched sets of pipes copied from a 1785 set. Their music harks back to the time before military styles and links music, Gaelic and dance. As well as this, Ecletnica Pagus from Molise, Italy will perform their wonderful mix of classical and folk with Zampogna, harp, bass clarinet amongst other instruments.
