Jojazz 2008 Will Be Held November 27 – 30

jojazz_2008Havana, Cuba (PL) – The addition of small groups and the technological renewal in the evaluation of works, are some of the news of the International Competition of young jazz players in 2008, held in Cuba in late November.

Lucia Maza, specialist of the National Centre of Popular Music, indicated that the presence in the prestigious event of small groups will allow a bigger participation and rivalry between the competitors, a demand made in previous editions.

This will give a bigger importance to the interpretation, which traditionally is beat by the composition in the evaluation made by jury in the event, also called Jojazz.

The specialist announced that this year is expected a greater number of participants in the semi professional demo – recording format for reference or before the interpretation support, with the aim of facilitate the jury a wider perception of the work of each author.

Regarding the composition competition, the interested will be able to present a maximum of two unpublished Works, with free format and which a have not been previously awarded or placed to the public.

The Colibrí record will make a CD with the awarded pieces as well as the proposal they consider relevant to be part his famous catalogue El Joven Espíritu del Jazz Cubano.

The event will be held from the 27 up to the 30 of November in its usual seat in the Amadeo Roldan theatre, dedicated to the Cuban musician Bobby Carcasses, founder and promoter of the Jazz Plaza Festival.
