Starting it all off right in New York City as part of the New York City Gypsy Jazz Festival, Eastern Blok then spreads west. Performing for the first time in the states of Colorado and Nebraska, in addition to their regular stomping grounds – New York, Ohio, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois – Eastern Blok is touting new material and the original award-winning lineup.
The group features classical guitar virtuoso Goran Ivanovic, Doug Rosenberg on saxophone and flute, Matthew Ulery on bass, and Michael Caskey, a five-time Detroit Music Award and Downbeat Magazine Award winner, on drums.
Eastern Blok holds its own during this seeming glut of Balkan dance bands in the United States. Drawing upon highly dynamic classical and jazz aesthetics rather than relying on the recent fad of gypsy-jam-band antics, Eastern Blok maintains a timeless sound and virtuosic approach.
