This year the EBU World Music Workshop (EBU WMW) will take place at WOMEX 08. A full-day workshop at the WOMEX Conference area is planned for Wednesday, 29 October from 10:00 – 18:00. In addition, an EBU WMW session will be integrated into the WOMEX Conference program.
All world music broadcasters – from Europe and elsewhere – are invited to go to the workshop and take part in the program together with the EBU World Music Workshop members.
The full workshop program will be available at the beginning of September, but after its recent meeting in Berlin the Organising Committee has revealed these themes to look forward to:
- Flamenco today – a presentation of the current state of flamenco music in Spain, including a section on flamenco tourism. They’re working on the possibility of bringing in some current flamenco artists for conversation.
- Multikulti farewell – an assessment of the importance of 14 years of Radiomultikulti in Berlin, and reactions to the fact that the radio channel will be closed at the end of this year.
- Soundscapes of worldwide music – world music on the radio.
- How do we package our delivery of world music on the radio? Let us look (and listen) into the world of jingles, signature tunes, sound effects and audio layouts of our radio programmes.
And for all WOMEX delegates, EBU WMW will hold a Conference session during WOMEX itself on the theme:
Formatting – curse or blessing? Speakers will include Co de Kloet and Zjakki Willems. The exact date and time of this session will be announced soon.
