Paris, France – The new year is off to a great start for the Orchestre National de Barbés, who will release their newest album, ‘Alik’ (Wagram) on January 14th in Switzerland, January 25th in Benelux, and February 4th in France.
Founded in 1995 by musicians from wide variety of backgrounds (Algeria, Morocco and various cities and suburbs in France), the Orchestre National de Barbès first made a name for themselves on stage where their contagious energy and large repertoire, with its savvy blend of colorful and melodious rhythms, caught the imagination of fans and music critics alike.
The name for their latest album, ‘Alik,’ comes from a term used by rai enthusiasts to mean The twelve piece group demonstrates their maturity and range with this new project and each musician offers their own unique contribution.
The twelve talented individuals who make up ONB are: Fatah Benlala (doing chaâbi and Kabyle vocals) Fathellah Ghoggal and his Knopfler-inspired guitar, Khlif Miziallaoua playing more in Clapton style, Ahmed Bensidhoum (the great rai percussionist), Michel Petry (packing a pretty punch on the drums) and Mustapha Mataoui (keyboards). These musicians were brought up on rai, rock, gnawa, and great groove in general and they all have one main thing in common: an undiminished joy of playing and a love of rock – the real, tough, primitive rock.
