New York city (NY), USA – On Sunday, January 27th, South African musical legend Hugh Masekela will perform at S.O.B.’s, New York’s renowned world music club. In 2007, S.O.B.’s hosted several sold-out concerts by amazing African artists like Oliver Mtukudzi, Seun Kuti and fellow South African vocalist, Vusi Mahlasela . Kicking off 2008, S.O.B.’s continues its long-standing tradition of African sounds with 2 Hugh Masekela performances.
Hugh Masekela‘s distinct musical signature is much in evidence throughout a four-decade recording career that spans everything from jazz and pop to r & b and dance music. However, he is among the best known of "world music" artists for his extraordinary gift of wedding the musical traditions of his native South Africa with the sounds he loves from all other parts of the world. He’s also heard widely on a variety of other recordings – from Bob Marley‘s earliest recordings to Buena Vista Social Club bassist Cachaito Lopez’s recent solo disc. Masekela is best known for his 1968 pop hit cover of Philemon Hou’s "Grazing In The Grass."
