The Northern Cree group, from Alberta (Canada) has become one of the stars of the pow wow circuit. Their CDs are regularly nominated for Aboriginal music awards in Canada and Native American music awards in the United States.
Northern Cree and Friends, Volume 5, Calling All Dancers, is the latest CD of explosive vocals and drumming. The aboriginal Canadian musicians are captured live, showing the intensity of their live performances.
The program on the CD are round dances, which were traditionally healing ceremonies. The liner notes explosion that the Cree round dances are "filled with humor and good feelings, the songs that accompany the dance featuring soaring vocals set to the steady rhythmic pulse of the hand drums."
