Paris, France – Gnawa Diffusion is an important French world music band, being a strong message holder of the idea of united peoples. Indeed, Gnawa Diffusion is composed of North-African musicians who with their colorful Saharan music, defy all powers in the name of peace.
They are an octet, with amazing vocals, guinbri (picked lute), guitar, flute, traditional percussion, mandol, banjo and kerbab (‘rattlesnakes’, a kind of metallic castanet).
Both DVD and CD versions of ‘Fucking Cowboys’ cover the band’s concert in Paris at the ‘Elysée-Montmartre’ in November 2006, when they were celebrating the tenth anniversary of the release of their first album, ‘Algeria’. Spellbinding and strong, direct and political, sincere and familiar, Gnawa Diffusion’s music goes straight to the heart. The releases also feature bonus footage of their initial return to Algeria in 2000, then in 2001 after the bloody clashes in Kabylia, and finally in 2003.
These unique live footages will be out in Japan, UK, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Switzerland. They will also be on tour from April to June in Algeria, Italy, Switzerland and Spain.
