Elegy of the Uprooting is a live concert recording of haunting music by Eleni Karaindrou. Elegy of the Uprooting documents a 2005 concert in Athens for which Karaindrou chose music from through-out her career.
ECM Records began recording the music of this Greek composer in 1991 and over the past two decades has released six albums of her work. Much of that music was originally written for the films of the great Greek film maker Theo Angelopoulos, but other compositions (i.e. Trojan Women) were written for theater.
On each album, Karaindrou worked with ECM founder/producer Manfred Eicher to craft a coherent listening experience for CD.
