Armagh Pipers Club has announced details of the 13th William Kennedy Piping Festival. The festival will be held 15th-19th November, 2006 in Armagh.
Started in 1994 to celebrate the memory of the blind 18th pipe maker from Tandragee, Co. Armagh, it has grown to become one of the most famous and prestigious festivals of its kind in the world. As well as formal concerts there will be workshops for all instruments, lectures, films, sessions and much more.
Highlights this year include the World Piping Concert (17th) which features Liam O’Flynn & The Pipers Call Band; Michael McGoldrick with Ed Boyd & John Joe Kelly; Ensemble Shanbehzadeh from Iran: and the Anxo Lorenzo Band from Galicia (Spain).
On the 18th there will be a special concert to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Armagh Pipers Club. This will feature Lúnasa, Flook, Buille, Jarlath Henderson, Tiarnán Ó Duinnchinn, and many more.
On the 16th, the ever popular Highland Piping Concert will feature a return visit from the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland, alongside Armagh’s finest – The Killeen Pipe Band. Featured soloists will be Dougie Pincock and Anna Murray.
Other highlights over the weekend include performances from Robbie Hannan & Dermot McLaughlin; Sean McKeon & Liam O’Connor; Brendan Ring & friends; Jimmy O’Brien Moran; a return visit from Scottish band Dàimh; Band Re from Sardinia and Scotland; and also a special celebration of Czech music and culture featuring master pipers Josef Moltas and Martin Berka.
