Reading, UK – WOMAD returns to the banks of the River Thames in Reading for another extravaganza of music, arts and dance from around the world. Over seventy artists and groups from more than thirty countries will be appearing on seven stages; there will also be a full program of interactive workshops for adults and children plus a Global Village of over 250 international food and merchandise stalls.
Many more names will be announced over the coming months but there are some truly outstanding names confirmed so far: Batucada Sound Machine (New Zealand); Bellowhead (UK); Calypso All Stars (Trinidad); Cherifa (Morocco); Toumani Diabate & Symmetric Orchestra (Mali); Gotan Project (France); Nanci Griffith (USA); Diana Hamilton (Bahamas); Joji Hirota, Kenny Endo & John Kaizan Neptune (Japan/USA); Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings (USA); Salif Keita (Mali); Femi Kuti (Nigeria); Los De Abajo (Mexico); Marcelo D2 (Brazil); Mitsoura (Hungary); Enrique Morente (Spain); Dennis Rollins’ Badbone & Co (UK); Anoushka Shankar (India); Spanish Harlem Orchestra (USA); Trilok Gurtu & the Misra Brothers (India); Warsaw Village Band (Poland); (line-up is subject to change).
Ticket prices are: Weekend ticket: £110 (includes free camping from Friday – Monday am). A limited number of Weekend tickets are at a special ‘Early Bird’ price of £100. These will be sold on a ‘first come, first served’ basis from 15 March.
Weekend tickets give access to the campsite from 8am on Friday 28 July through to Monday 31 July. If you wish to camp or enter the arena on Thursday 27 July, order an ‘Early Entry Thursday’ ticket (see below).
Early entry Thursday ticket: £10 per person. It gives entry to campsite from 8am (and Festival Arena from 2pm) on THURSDAY 27 July. Valid only in conjunction with a Weekend ticket (not Day tickets). Applies to all holders of Standard, Concession and Disabled Weekend tickets. Does not apply to children aged 13 and under.
