Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA – Narada Records has released The Ultimate
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Volumes 1 and 2 (Narada/Virgin Records. After
various collaborations and numerous late-career
releases come these unheard recordings of a very young Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, in
two posthumous 2-CD sets. Volume 1 includes some of the earliest-known
recordings by Nusrat, dating from 1978 to 1982. Volume 2, released a month
later, continues with more early sessions, from 1983-1984.The most celebrated Qawwal, or Sufi devotional singer, of his time, Nusrat’s
imposing image is one that has become familiar not only within circles of world
music aficionados but also within the mainstream. Singing songs of praise and
mystical devotion, Nusrat’s music is the unexpected tone in a time when music
tacks substance and meaning.
The music on these two posthumous sets contains the songs few were lucky
enough to hear during the peak of Nusrat’s musical career. Embraced and highly
respected by such musical legends as Peter Gabriel and Eddie Vedder of Pearl
Jam, and immortalized in such motion picture soundtracks as Natural Born
Killers, Dead Man Walking and Ghost and the Darkness, Nusrat’s music lives on
for eternity through the message of mercy he lived and died.
