Cuban Artists Sing for Joan Manuel Serrat

(Prensa Latina) Cannes, France.- Silvio Rodriguez,

Ibrahim Ferrer
and
Omara
Portuondo
are
some of the Cuban artists included in the list of 21 featured in a tribute
album for Spanish singer Joan Manuel Serrat, a very influential figure in
Cuban music.

According to an announcement made at the Midem Music Fair taking place in
this southeastern city of France, the album was released by Spanish
record label Discmedi-Blau.The album, including Cuban artists” covers of songs by Joan Manuel Serrat,
also features pianist
Chucho
Valdés
,
Compay
Segundo
´s band, Omara Portuondo
and Pablo Milanés, among others.

Main representative of Spain´s Nova Cançó, Joan Manuel Serrat largely
influenced the Cuban New Trova movement of the 60s.

Since his first visit to Havana in the early 1970s, he inserted themes such
as love or small everyday things of life into the creation of the Cuban
songwriters of the time, according to Cuban singer Amaury Pérez.
