(Prensa Latina – Cumbancha) Pinar del Río, Cuba – Memorias de un Guajiro
(Memories of a Farmer,) a book about the private life of singer-composer Polo
Montáñez is being edited at the Letras Cubanas publishing house. Began with his
consent, the biography includes photos, documents and confessions by the late
artist from Pinar del Rio, while José Nelson Castillo Gonzalez, its author,
stated the book is a result of research began on September 30, 2001, after an
interview with the artist. The third Cuban obtaining a Platinum Album authorized Castillo to start the
project and after his death a year ago, the researcher received the full support
from Polo´s family and Lusafrica Record Company. The book is one of the tributes
to Fernando Borrego Linares – Montanez´s real name- with a story reading like a
legend and a short but intense professional career, with two albums left to
posterity: Guajiro Natural and Guitarra Mia.
