Valjevo, Yugoslavia – The Amala Summer School for Gypsy Music holds summer workshops in Romani (Gypsy) folk music. It offers 3-week summer workshops, taught by local Romani musicians in the central Yugoslav town of Valjevo. The goal is to offer a complete cultural experience: participants will learn authentic Romani music by ear, in the traditional way, while surrounded by the Romani culture: food, language and family atmosphere. At the same time, because the course is organized and run by Roma, participants will help keep the tradition of Romani music alive.
