Uruguayan Musical Genres
Uruguay is located in southern South America, bordering the South Atlantic Ocean, between Argentina (west) and Brazil (east).
Candombe defines both a rhythm and a dance of African origin from Uruguay. It is derived from the Bantu words ka and ndonge, which means a “meeting of blacks.”
Tango – although commonly associated with Argentina, tango developed in Uruguay as well.
