The Chacarera is an Andean folk dance from northwestern Argentina that is also performed in neighboring Bolivia.

Chamamé is an indigenous Guaraní term for a lighthearted dance, but it also refers in Spanish to the enramada, a shaded patio protecting against the tropical sun, a place for entertainment and repose.

Chamamé is a 6/8 genre, first documented in the early 19th century. The first chamamé on a 78rpm disc was released by RCA in Buenos Aires in 1930.

Chamame was developed by the Creoles born in this area full of forests, rivers, falls and red ground, together with European immigrants that came from Germany, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, etc. The immigrants brought something very important with them, the accordion. It became a key element in the development of the genre.

Chamame is called music of the servants because the country people brought it to the city suburbs where they settled. It is a complex beautiful music where you can find melancholy fighting with joy all the time.

Chango Spasiuk is one of the leading chamamé musicians. He follows in the footsteps of Abitbol, Cocomarola, Martínez Riera, Montiel, and other classic chamamé composers.

Chamamé was inscribed in 2020 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
