Sicilian Sounds and Centuries Unfold in Taberna Mylaensis’ ‘U Tempu Passa’

Taberna Mylaensis – U Tempu Passa / Time Passes (Pan Records Pan235, 2023)

U Tempu Passa is a trip between Mediterranean destinations, visiting memories, sounds, ancient words and centuries of history in and around Sicily. This trip touches upon cornerstones like traditional Sicilian roots music and influences from the various cultures that ruled or visited the Italian island.

Composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Luciano Maio guides the ensemble’s acoustic sound that creatively combines Italian musical instruments with instruments from other parts of the Mediterranean and Ireland. With this format, Taberna Mylaensis presents a delightful, timeless and evocative alchemy of intimate and lively songs that relate to dreams, time, traditions, and loves.

Taberna Mylaensis is a 4-piece acoustic ensemble from Sicily, that has existed in several line-ups since the mid-1970s, with singer-songwriter Luciano Maio as its anchor. The current line-up has been in place for 20 years, and this is their 3rd album together.
