Celebrated Mongolian group Ajinai will make its Toronto debut today Thursday, April 2 at Small World Music Centre in Toronto.
Ajinai has brought traditional music of Inner Mongolia into the 21st Century. They play traditional folk instruments such as the morin khuur (horse head fiddle), the taobushur (mouth harp), and the huobus, but they also add modern percussion and improvisation.
Ajinai’s roots are strongly rooted in the Mongolian grasslands, but the ensemble’s members met playing in the bustling rock scene of Beijing. Their youth and rock experience lend a modern perspective to their music.
