Paris, France – Sally Nyolo, Meissa and Les Orientales will headline 8th edition of the Mosaïques Festival, which celebrates cultural diversity at its richest level with several UK premieres of world cinema, encounters with directors and writers, live music, discussions, storytelling and readings. The event will take place at the Institut français (May 4-14), the Ritzy Cinema (May 5-11), Greenwich Picturehouse (May 7,8) and Peckham Multiplex (May 9).
In the framework of a special tribute to the ‘father of francophony,’ Senegalese poet and former state president Léopold Sédar Senghor, Senegalese performer Meïssa will read and sing his poems live (May 9).
The festival will also feature an exclusive screening of Original, a documentary which takes us from the recording of Sally Nyolo‘s Tribal Production project through to its enthusiastic international reception, where the artist returns to her native Cameroon in search of her grandmother’s music and, concerned by the lack of local infrastructure, sets up a recording studio in Yaoundé. The artist and the film maker, François Bergeron, will attend the event and answer the questions of the public (May 10).
On its closing night, Mosaiques will welcome Les Orientales, a seven-piece combo known for their modern take on the 40’s and 60’s to the Algerian Music Hall, for a special live concert, followed by The Shrine’s DJ set (13 May).
