Bandoneon Maestro Leopoldo Federico Dies at 87

Renowned Argentine bandoneon master, arranger, musical director and composer Leopoldo Federico passed away on December 28, 2014. He was 87 years old.

Leopoldo Federico was born on January 12, 1927 in Balvanera (Buenos Aires), Argentina. He was one of the finest bandoneon players who performed with the leading tango musicians and orchestras in Argentina.

In 2007 The Latin Recording Academy had the pleasure of honoring tango master and Latin GRAMMY winner Leopoldo Federico, one of Argentina’s national treasurers, with the Trustees Award for his significant contributions as a talented arranger, director, and composer. An outstanding bandoneon player, Federico enjoyed a rich and dynamic career and his legacy will influence generations to come. Our deepest condolences extend to his family, friends, and the great country of Argentina who have lost a talented music man,” said Gabriel Abaroa, President/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy.
