Although most of the focus is on Serbian, Romanian and Macedonian brass bands, Russian also has its lively Gypsy brass band scene. Bubamara Brass Band is a vibrant band from Moscow that mixes Balkan brass sounds with Middle Eastern belly dancing percussion.

Balkanteka , Bubamara Brass Band latest release features one of the stars of the international brass band scene, Serbian trumpeter Marko Markovic from the Orchestra Boban and Marko Markovic.

Most of the material performed by Bubamara Brass Band consists of original pieces by bandleader Alexander Kashtanov. The group also plays a classic gypsy Serbian song titled “Caje Sukarije” and the famous Macedonian song “Zajdi, Zajdi Jasno Sonce”.

The lineup includes Nataliya Zherenkova on vocal, violin; Aleksandar Kashtanov on alto sax, flute, guitar, zills; Nikolay Moiseenko on alto sax; Konstantin Safyanov on alto sax; Oleg Grymov on clarinets, soprano sax; Sergey Serov on trombone, bass trumpet, vocals; Arhip Samsonov on baritone horn; Artem Koryapin on baritone horn, trumpet; Dmitriy Karev on accordion; Andrey Timofeev on tuba; Iliya Lipatov on drums; Alexandr Vtorov on drums; Artem Uzunov on darbuka, cajon; and Marko Markovic on trumpet.

Bubamara Brass Band showcases a seductive mix of infectious rhythms, vocals and galvanizing brass sounds.
