S.O.B.’s Celebrates 50 Years of Independence of Ghana

New york (NY), USA – S.O.B.’s, the home of African music in New York City, celebrates African Liberation Day and Ghana’s 50th birthday with Pat Thomas, Papa She’ee, Ajo Tina and special guests.
 
 On May 25, 1963, leaders of thirty-two independent African States met to form the Organization of African Unity. This meeting was significant because represented the collective will of the African People to unite their continent and see the system of colonialism permanently done away with. African Liberation Day has been held on May 25th in every corner of the world since and has played a critical role in the defeat of colonialism and Apartheid.Direct from Ghana, Pat Thomas is a native of Agona, in the Ashanti Region with a father who was a music teacher and a mother who was a bandleader. Pat was crowned Mr. Golden Voice of Africa in 1978 and at the same time won the ECRAC award of the year. In 1991 he also won the Album of the year with his "Sika Ye Mogya" song. He has toured extensively in Europe and Canada and proudly boasts of 15 albums.

Papa She’ee is one of Ghana’s most exciting Hip-life stage performers. His music career, which commenced in his teenage years, has produced five albums to date. DJs love to mix his tracks with Hip-hop , R&B as well as High-life—the melodious music of Ghana. Every Album he has released contains infectious songs that enjoy massive airplay throughout Africa.

Shiko Mawatu, Nguma Lokito, Issac Katalayi and Dominic Kanza are veteran Congolese musicians that have played with Soukous Stars, Papa Wemba, Pepe Kalle, Kanda Bongo-Man, Awilo and many others. These artists come together in celebration of African Liberation Day and Ghana’s 50th birthday at S.O.B.’s on May 27th.
