Influential folk musician Nick Reynolds, one of the founding members of the Kingston Trio, died October 3 at a San Diego hospital. He was 75.
"As a member of the Kingston Trio, Nick Reynolds was an integral figure in the popularization of folk music," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. "Winning a GRAMMY Award at the inaugural awards show in1958, and following it with a second GRAMMY the subsequent year, he and his band mates helped revive the folk scene of the late ’50s and early ’60s.
The spirited vocals and intricate harmonies in the tender lyrics that Reynolds added became a signature style of the group. His contributions to folk music are everlasting, and our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and all who were influenced by his formidable talent."
