Ancient Instruments Meet Electric Harp on Mübin Dünen and Raoul Moretti’s Anima Vibrante

Mübin Dünen and Raoul Moretti – Anima Vibrante (RM-DM, 2026)

Kurdish musician Mübin Dünen and Italian-Swiss harpist Raoul Moretti have released Anima Vibrante, an album that connects traditional Middle Eastern instruments with electric harp and live electronics.

The collaboration began in Cagliari, Sardinia, and developed through a series of live performances. Pierpaolo Meloni recorded, mixed, and mastered the album at his studio in Sestu, near Cagliari.

Anima Vibrante, whose title translates as “Vibrant Soul,” centers on the exchange between the musicians’ cultural and artistic backgrounds. Dünen plays santur, cura, duduk, and ney, while Moretti combines electric harp with real-time electronic processing. As a result, the duo generates a spellbinding sound with reverberating electric harp joined by melodic global strings and ney flute.

Raoul Moretti has worked as a professional harpist for more than 25 years and has performed thousands of concerts. His performances included genres such as pop, rock, jazz, aa well as theater, visual art, improvisation, and experimental music.

His studio and live collaborators include Elisa, Beppe Dettori, Fiorello, Julia Kent, Michele Gazich, Paolo Fresu, Gavino Murgia, Franco Mussida, Davide Van De Sfroos, Dardust, Guido Maria Grillo, Mauro Giovanardi, La Crus, Olo Creative Farm, and the Wuji Ensemble. He has also worked with Milan’s Piccolo Teatro and comedian Leonardo Manera.

Moretti has appeared on about 20 albums, including four solo releases for electric harp. His honors include L’Artista Che Non C’Era award, as well as recognition connected to Folk & World 2023, Archivio Cervo 2020, Premio Carta 2021, and the 2020 Targhe Tenco finals.

His concert history includes performances across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas. In addition, he teaches pop and rock harp at the CPM Music Institute in Milan and leads workshops on electric harp and improvisation at conservatories and academies. He also founded and directs the Arpe Del Mondo International Festival.

Mübin Dünen was born in Silvan, Turkey, and studied ney at the Izmit Municipal Conservatory. He also learned santur, cura, tanbur, and duduk.

His work is grounded in Kurdish and Turkish traditions. During a career of nearly 20 years, he has performed in the United States, Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Greece, the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland, France, Germany, Romania, Austria, and Italy.

Dünen has maintained close ties to Sardinia since 2010. His projects on the island include Paola Pitzalis’ album No Mendigues Amor, Gisella Vacca’s theater production Se Dai Miei Versi Strappi Le Rose, the concert production Azadias, and the film Il Sogno Dei Pastori, whose score he co-wrote with Mauro Palmas. He has also presented his repertoire as a solo artist and with the Magic Carpet ensemble.

His discography includes Bahar and Araf, both released in 2009, followed by Gerok in 2016 and Asl Ask in 2018. The latter emerged from a music and theater project with actress Nilüfer Perihan Kurtoğlu.

RM has released the physical version of Anima Vibrante as a limited-edition digipack CD. It is also available in digital format.
