Stella Papalamprou Unveils “Trygona” Video Filmed in Northern Greece

Greek artist Stella Papalamprou has released her new single, “Trygona,” together with an official music video filmed in Grevena, Northern Greece.

Trygona draws inspiration from one of the most multifaceted female figures in Pontic tradition. Her name refers both to the turtledove, a symbol of the beloved in Pontic folk songs, and to a common women’s name among the Greek communities of the Black Sea. The recording combines two traditional songs from the Pontus region to present two complementary portrayals of the same character.

The first part depicts Trygona as a resilient woman who carries out demanding agricultural work on her own. She gathers wood, cares for animals, collects herbs, and represents the strength and endurance traditionally associated with Pontian women. The second part shifts the focus to a more symbolic portrayal. Here, Trygona wears earrings and rings, while her gentle gaze transforms the night into what feels like a thousand years.

The accompanying music video was filmed in Valia Calda National Park in Grevena, where the natural landscape reflects the project’s connection to memory, heritage, and Pontic tradition.

“In this video, I wear cherished clothes that belonged to my late father, creating a subtle bridge between memory, landscape, and music,” Papalamprou said.

The release forms part of Papalamprou’s Protanixin project, which celebrates the musical traditions of Pontus and the Black Sea through modern interpretations of traditional repertoire.

The song features lyrics in the Pontic Greek dialect. The verses alternate between scenes of daily rural life and poetic imagery that highlights Trygona’s beauty, mystery, and enduring presence within Pontic folklore.
