Appalachian Smoke have rolled out their emotive new single, “Running from the Moon.” This is a deeply personal and emotionally charged story about family, sacrifice, and understanding across generations.
Written by BJ Taylor, the song reflects the lived experience of a childhood watching a father spend long periods away from home working in the gravel mines. Through vivid imagery of exhausted returns, diesel-soaked work clothes, motel stays, and quick meals on the road, the track paints an honest portrait of the unseen sacrifices made to provide a life in the mountains.
The narrator reflects on not fully understanding those sacrifices as a child, only to later step into similar work and gain a new perspective. That full-circle realization highlights the shared experience and emotions of generations as they chase work through long nights.
Appalachian Smoke features Cooper Marona on lead vocal; Mikel Laws on banjo; BJ Taylor on mandolin; Jamie Mason on guitar and harmony vocals; Kenneth Rymer on dobro and harmony vocals; and Aaron Ramsey on guitar and bass.
