Al Andaluz Project Takes the Number One Spot on Transglobal World Music Chart, February 2025

The Songs of Iman Kandoussi: Traditional Arabic Andalusian by Al Andaluz Project has landed at #1 on Transglobal World Music Chart for the month of February 2025.

Al Andaluz Project was founded in 2005 after members of the German ensemble Estampie attended a performance by the Spanish band Aman Aman at the Jewish Culture Days in Munich. The group aimed to revive the musical traditions of Jewish-Sephardic, Christian, and Arab-Andalusian cultures from Moorish Spain, emphasizing their historical coexistence.

Between 2006 and 2013, they released four studio albums and a live recording while performing across Europe. Central to their music were three vocalists, Sigrid Hausen, Mara Aranda, and Iman Kandoussi, each representing one of these traditions. The Songs of Iman Kandoussi is the first thematic compilation focused on Arabo-Andalusian repertoire, highlighting the Moroccan singer’s contributions. The album reflects the enduring influence of Andalusian culture in the Maghreb, where it flourished after the fall of the last Islamic kingdom in Spain.
