The first week of Suma Flamenca will feature 16 performances across Madrid and San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
Gerardo Núñez will present Guitarra desnuda today at Teatros del Canal, a show of immense creative and interpretative depth. He will joined by disciples Rycardo Moreno, Bolita de Jerez, Jerónimo Maya, Juan Antonio Suárez “Canito,” and Álvaro Martinete.
María Terremoto is set to take the stage at Teatro de la Abadía today, highighting her powerful voice in the purest form of cante jondo, accompanied solely by guitar and palmas (handclapping), eliminating all distractions.
Acclaimed dancer Manuela Carrasco will present Siempre Manuela to Teatros del Canal on Friday, October 18. After 50 years in flamenco, including winning the 2007 National Dance Prize, Carrasco sees this performance as a gift to her audience, reflecting on her vast career.
Following his success at the San Sebastián Film Festival, where he presented La guitarra de Yerai Cortés by Antón Álvarez (C. Tangana), the Alicante-born artist, will perform Guitarra coral at Teatro de la Abadía on Thursday, October 17. His innovative sound design, combined with six palmeras (vocalists and hand clappers), pushes the boundaries of flamenco.
On Friday, October 18, Biznagas de Málaga will be staged at Teatros del Canal. This ensemble performance blends the traditional sounds of verdiales, malagueñas, and rondeñas with choreography by Ana Pastrana and a script by José Luis Ortiz Nuevo.
Albéniz flamenco will also be featured on Friday, October 18, at Teatro de la Abadía, highlighting the fusion between the flamenco guitar of Miguel Ángel Cortés and the classical guitar of José María Gallardo. The show is a tribute to the Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz, who had a deep admiration for flamenco.
José Canela, son of the famed Canela de San Roque, continues his father’s legacy with a powerful performance of Canela en rama at the Centro Cultural Pilar Miró on Friday, October 18.
Bailaora Patricia Donn combines flamenco with contemporary and neoclassical dance in Mujeres 2.0, showing on Friday, October 18, at Teatro Real Coliseo Carlos III in San Lorenzo de El Escorial. The performance is a tribute to women who live for art and seek equality.
Joaquín Grilo pays homage to the working songs of flamenco in Cucharón y paso atrás, performing at Teatros del Canal on Saturday, October 19. This retrospective show connects flamenco’s roots to its modern evolution.
Lastly, El quejío indomable, performed by Aurora Vargas at Teatro de la Abadía on Saturday, October 19, captures the raw emotion of quejío gitano. Accompanied by flamenco guitarist Miguel Salado and compás specialists Diego Montoya and Manuel Salado, Vargas asserts the timeless truth of flamenco.
