Jesús Corbacho Wins the ‘Lámpara Minera’ at the 63rd Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas

The ‘Lámpara Minera’ of the 63rd edition of the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas has been awarded to Jesús Corbacho from Huelva. Corbacho captivated the jury at the prestigious ‘Catedral del Cante’ with his performances of Mineras and Guajira (Group III), earning him the festival’s highest honor.

In a moment of reflection, Corbacho expressed disbelief and gratitude for achieving a long-held dream. He had previously won for Malagueñas in 2008 and returned to the stage to perform solo, showcasing his vocal talents. Corbacho dedicated his win to his family and heritage, sharing a photo of his grandfather José, emphasizing his humble upbringing and family values.

This year, all awardees had previously performed at the festival, including Japanese flamenco dancer ‘La Yunko,’ who made history as the first non-Spanish recipient of the ‘Desplante’ Feminine Award. Despite not expecting to win, La Yunko’s dedication to flamenco, which she started at 18, led her to this significant achievement.

In the guitar category, Madrid’s Joni Jiménez secured the ‘Bordón Minero,’ outperforming Marcos de Silvia. Previously known for accompanying vocalists, Jiménez is now pursuing a personal guitar project and will soon perform at the Bienal Flamenca de Sevilla.

José ‘El Marqués’ received the first prize for Flamenco Instrumentalist with his cello, with Lorenzo Moya on the piano earning second place. El Marqués aims to highlight the solo potential of the cello in flamenco, a direction he plans to explore further in his upcoming album. “It’s an incredible feeling because I’m making a flamenco cello album, and it’s going to be great for me to get people to know it,” said the award winner.
