Mundial Montréal 2024 Announces First Wave of Official Showcases

Mundial Montréal returns for its 14th edition from November 19 to 22, 2024. Featuring nearly 30 showcasing artists, the event highlights the best in world music over four days of performances throughout the city. The event continues its mission to present culturally diverse projects annually, featuring both local and international talent. More than 300 industry professionals, including international and Canadian delegates, will attend, offering a program of panels, meetings, workshops, and curated networking sessions.

The full program will be announced in September. For now, here are the 10 official showcase artists in the first wave of announcements: JACE Carrillo, Jeremy Ledbetter Trio, Laura Low, Les Rats d’Swompe, Magdala, Misc, NUNNE, Rabie Houti Band, Ron Artis II, and Soleil Launière.

From Ontario, the Jeremy Ledbetter Trio will perform. The trio consists of pianist Jeremy Ledbetter, drummer Larnell Lewis (of Snarky Puppy and Joy Lapps), and electric bassist Rich Brown.

Les Rats d’Swompe, a group that combines rock, traditional music, pop, and punk, will present a high-energy show featuring Franco-Ontarian folklore.

Magdala, a Haitian-Montrealer singer, draws from Gospel, Zouk, Kompa, Dancehall, and R&B, promising to captivate audiences with her soulful voice. The instrumental trio Misc will explore jazz with influences from electronica, pop, rock, and eclectic samples. They will release a new album in autumn 2024.

Montreal-based Mexican artist NUNNE offers contemporary Latin music with acoustic melodies and poignant lyrics. She will also release a new album in autumn 2024. Meanwhile, Ron Artis II, an award-winning songwriter from Hawaii, will showcase his captivating guitar and magnetic soul voice.

Montreal-based Venezuelan artist JACE Carillo, known from his performance at Fuego Fuego, will bring electro-pop and contemporary folktronica to the late-night showcases, details of which will be announced in September. On the other hand, Innu multidisciplinary artist Soleil Launière, a Révélations Radio-Canada 2024 performer, mixes vocal harmonies and strong percussion with performance art for a deep and gripping experience.

Sounds from Spain will present Laura Low, a versatile artist who brings together pop, Canarian folk, R&B, and classical music. In collaboration with the Association des Producteurs & Éditeurs en Musique d’Occitanie (APEM OC), the Occitan project Rabie Houti Band will perform, featuring a fusion of traditional Algerian violin, blues guitars, modern percussion, bass, and synthesizers.
