El Laberinto del Coco, the Puerto Rican bomba fusion ensemble led by percussionist Héctor “Coco” Barez, has released a new single titled “Todo Se Nubla.” The track mixes four traditional bomba rhythm, sicá, yubá, holandé, and hoyomula.
Recorded at Playbach Studio and El Olimpo Studio in Puerto Rico, the song was engineered by Carlos Velázquez and Gabriel Oliver, who also handled mixing and mastering. The single’s artwork and accompanying animation were created by Puerto Rican artists Gerardo Vélez and Jaime Vázquez.
“Todo Se Nubla” incorporates elements of reggae and bachata, spotlighting Puerto Rican-Dominican guitarist Jorge Andrés Ferreras. Meanwhile, the percussion section, featuring Efraín Martínez, Andrés Kino Cruz, Manuel Kike Rodríguez, and Barez himself, anchors the track’s dynamic rhythm shifts.
Vocalist Génesis Dávila delivers a lead performance centered on themes of trust, reciprocity, and respect. Her message is amplified by intricate choral arrangements from Antoinette Rodríguez, supported by harmonies from Soreimi Bezares and Adryanna Muller. Midway through the track, trombonist Jomar Santana contributes a verse, adding rhythmic contrast. The song closes with a jazz-inflected scat solo by legendary vocalist Jerry Medina.

Since forming in 2017, El Laberinto del Coco has built an international following by combining bomba with jazz, funk, and Latin pop. Their discography includes a self-titled album, the EP El Laberinto del Coco Virtual, and several singles. In 2024, the band gained further exposure through a performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, followed by a tour across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
