Paolo Angeli with a guitar

Six Strings, Infinite Sounds: Paolo Angeli’s guitar Alchemy at Joe’s Pub

On Saturday, March 8, 2025, Sardinian composer, ethnomusicologist, and instrument maker Paolo Angeli takes the stage at Joe’s Pub, New York City, for a boundary-defying solo performance. Known for his mastery of improvisation and genre-blurring soundscapes, Angeli plays a self-designed prepared Sardinian guitar—an intricate hybrid instrument equipped with pedals and levers that allow him to generate electronic and percussive accompaniments in real time.

Trained for nearly a decade under legendary Sardinian guitarist Giovanni Scanu, Angeli combines folk traditions with avant-garde techniques, creating a singular musical language that spans jazz, rock, and experimental sound. His performance promises a dynamic, immersive experience, with melodies unfolding through layers of unexpected textures and rhythmic innovation.

Presented by the World Music Institute, this concert is part of the Improvisations Series, celebrating artists who redefine the boundaries of spontaneous composition.
