On Saturday, March 8, 2025, Sardinian composer, ethnomusicologist, and instrument maker Paolo Angeli takes the stage at Joe’s Pub, New York City, for a boundary-defying solo performance. Known for his mastery of improvisation and genre-blurring soundscapes, Angeli plays a self-designed prepared Sardinian guitar—an intricate hybrid instrument equipped with pedals and levers that allow him to generate electronic and percussive accompaniments in real time.
Trained for nearly a decade under legendary Sardinian guitarist Giovanni Scanu, Angeli combines folk traditions with avant-garde techniques, creating a singular musical language that spans jazz, rock, and experimental sound.
