The Flamenco Festival New York (FFNY) returns with its 24th edition March 5-15, 2025, bringing the rich cultural heritage of Granada to the forefront. This year’s festival, the largest flamenco event in New York, features over 70 artists and technicians across 15 renowned venues, including the New York City Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Le Poisson Rouge, and Joe’s Pub. Beyond New York, performances will extend to Chicago, Miami, and San Francisco, totaling 26 shows.
A highlight of this year’s festival is its tribute to Federico García Lorca, who visited New York in 1929 and later penned Poeta en Nueva York, a poetic critique of capitalism and social injustice. The festival honors his literary legacy while showcasing Granada’s vibrant flamenco scene, spanning traditional to experimental styles.
Performers include celebrated artists such as cantaor Kiki Morente, guitarist Carlos de Jacoba, and cantaora Marina Heredia, alongside acclaimed dancers Manuel Liñán, Patricia Guerrero, Eva Yerbabuena, and Sara Jiménez. For many, including Alfonso Losa and La Plazuela, this marks their New York debut.
Expanding beyond music and dance, this edition introduces other performing arts disciplines. Zen del Sur will present a flamenco-circus fusion, while Repertorio Español stages La Casa de Bernarda Alba. Additional events include a Cajoneada in the Bronx, a symposium on Lorca and the Harlem Renaissance, and a Granada-themed film series.
Among the films, Cante Jondo: Granada 1922 (2023) and Sacromonte, los sabios de la tribu (2014) will feature post-screening discussions with Eva Yerbabuena and Marina Heredia, respectively.
With 11 days of performances, discussions, and cultural exchanges, FFNY will transform New York into a hub of flamenco artistry, bridging history and contemporary innovation.
