The album cover for "Tenderete en el Azul" presents a collage-like aesthetic that blends rustic charm with surreal undertones. Dominating the center of the design is the title text, rendered in bold, layered fonts with the phrase "En el Azul" prominently displayed in large, textured letters. The words have a faded, hand-painted quality, giving them a vintage feel. In the background, the artwork features a patchwork of images arranged in a grid-like pattern. These images depict a variety of scenes and elements: portraits of individuals, natural textures, architectural fragments, and symbolic illustrations like a crescent moon and a wine glass.

Tenderete: A Decade-Long Reunion Blossoms Into “En El Azul”

Tenderete – En el Azul (Bio Sound studio, 2024)

Tenderete, the multidisciplinary project led by singer Alba Bioque and percussionist Plácido Muñoz, returns after a ten-year hiatus with En El Azul. This ambitious work integrates music, storytelling, and visual art, offering an innovative take on flamenco and global folk traditions.

Originally launched in 2010, Tenderete was set aside after two years of exploration. Now, Bioque and Muñoz have reunited to reinterpret their original repertoire with a fresh, bold approach. The result is a matured and contemporary set of flavorful songs that elegantly mix traditional roots with eclectic global influences.

Set against the charming backdrop of Cádiz, in southern Spain, En El Azul tells the story of two star-crossed lovers, modern-day echoes of Quixote and Dulcinea, who connect and separate amidst the city’s azure hues. The narrative unfolds across three artistic formats:

Short Stories: Nine poetic tales provide the foundation of the story.
Audiovisual Miniseries: A visual exploration of the characters’ origins and personalities.
Musical Soundtrack: Nine flamenco-infused songs, enriched by unconventional instrumentation and rhythms from across the globe.

The album highlights Tenderete’s versatility, drawing from flamenco’s most iconic forms while weaving in Cuban and world music elements. The project features contributions from some of Spain’s finest musicians, including Javier Galiana, Jerónimo Maya, José López, and Melodie Grimar, among others.

Plácido Muñoz is a gifted composer, percussionist, and music educator. Muñoz studied in Cádiz, Badalona, and Havana. His expertise bridges traditional flamenco and experimental forms.

Alba Bioque is an engaging, passionate singer, composer, and vocal coach from Badalona. Bioque has led numerous musical projects and collaborated with acts such as Cirque du Soleil, Tori Sparks, and Pep Lladó. Her solo debut, Alvorigen (2018), further cemented her reputation as a versatile performer.
