Peixe e Limão – Salta! (Muziekpublique, 2024)
Peixe e Limão (fish and lemon in Portuguese), a trio formed by two Italians and a Belgian in Brussels, channels their shared experiences and vulnerabilities into a striking debut album, Salta! (“Jump!”). The city, a cultural crossroads, provides the backdrop where they amalgamate their native and adopted languages, forging a hybridized musical identity.
The album explores profound and relatable themes: love stripped of idealism, the quiet struggle of migration, the monotony of isolation, and the fatigue of everyday life. Despite these weighty subjects, Salta! exudes a sense of hope, capturing the desire to overcome fear and embrace the unknown.
Musically, the trio weaves together powerful melodies, lyrical moments, and a fusion of styles. Influences range from Italian and Spanish music to bossa nova and chamber folk with vocals in Spanish, Italian, French, and English. The result is an evocative collection of songs that resonate deeply, touching on the essence of human connection and vulnerability.
