Mariana Masetto – Cósmica (Bumbunita música, 2024)
Mariana Masetto, the lovely Argentine singer-songwriter and yoga instructor, celebrates a decade-long career with her latest album, Cósmica. This marks her tenth independent release, crafted in collaboration with a Latin Grammy-nominated producer known for expertise in recording and mastering. The album features eight tracks, each paired with an accompanying music video, presenting Masetto’s artistic versatility.
As in her previous work, Masetto sings with effortless fluidity in Spanish, Italian, French, and English. For sure, her voice is a vessel for storytelling that transcends linguistic boundaries. Her delightful vocals are captivating, an enchanting mix of warmth and dreaminess.
While her folk roots remain present, particularly through the use of the ronroco, a traditional Andean instrument akin to the charango, Cósmica takes bold steps into contemporary territory. The album’s arrangements interweave the organic and the electronic. A bass clarinet introduces a smoky, grounded texture, while laid back guitar lines ripple gently beneath the surface. All of this is enveloped by an ambient electronic soundscape that mesmerizes without overpowering.
Masetto’s artistry shines in her ability to honor tradition while pushing its boundaries. Her charming music evokes the vastness of Andean peaks or the intimacy of a Buenos Aires café.
The project brings together a talented ensemble of collaborators: Guillo Espe, arrangements for “Pulsar Coral” and “Mi Bosón”; Diego Barbanente on vocals; Juan Stafforini, choral direction for Ensamble Vocal di Tella; Pablo Piccini, arrangements for “Legüero Coral”; Elio Gutiérrez on ronroco; Javier Acevedo on accordion; Coti Moroni on bass clarinet; and Abel Ghelman on piano.
