Brass Outfit Iberoamerican Ensemble Explores Transatlantic Roots Music

Iberoamerican Ensemble – Tocando Raíces (AudioMaze, 2024)

Iberoamerican Ensemble presents an engaging, unconventional mix of jazz, flamenco, and Latin music. Notably, the transnational Netherlands-based Hispanic ensemble is a brass quintet with percussion that takes you on a thrilling ride through the sounds, rhythms, and cultures of Spain, Portugal, and Latin America.

On Tocando Raíces, the Iberoamerican Ensemble weaves together the fiery passion of flamenco, the elegance of Cuban danzón, the lively pulse of sevillanas, Brazilian chorinho, classic pasodoble and the deep emotion of Argentine tango, among others. The selection includes timeless classics as well as original compositions.

Ensemble members:

Óscar Cordero, trumpet, piccolo, flügelhorn, arranger, and producer

Óscar is specialized in Latin music. He was formerly the soloist for the National Philharmonic of Venezuela before moving to the Netherlands. In recent years, he has been part of various projects such as Soldaat van Oranje, Tina Turner Musical, Mouline Rouge, Jesus Christ Superstar and Rolf Sanchez (artistic director).

Álvaro Artime, trumpet, flügelhorn, recording engineer

Session musician who worked with bands such as New Cool Collective and The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. Lead trumpeter of Beets Meutgeert New Jazz Orchestra.

Pablo Martínez, tenor and bass trombone, flamenco singer, composer and arranger,

Pablo trained at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He leads the Pablo Martínez Flamenco-Jazz Band and collaborates with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and the Metropole Orkest. He excelled in the field of jazz with prizes such as the Edison Jazz Award and first places in international competitions.

Alejandro Luque, tenor Trombone, euphonium, bass trumpet

Freelance musician and arranger, trombonist member of Sinfonia Rotterdam and Pynarello Orchestra. Also works regularly with Rotterdam Philharmonic, Philharmonie Zuidnederland, Noord Nederland Orkest and Residentie Orkest. Founder of Pelgrim Brass.

Reinaldo Donoso, bass and contrabass trombone

Session musician who works regularly with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Radio Philharmonic, Het Ballet Orkest, Philharmonie Zuidnederland and Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.

Javier Infestas Maderuelo, percussion

Percussionist and producer. Freelance musician specialized in flamenco and Latin music. Manager and percussion at Lo Poloko. He has been touring in the Netherlands since 2014 with various artists and he has performed at festivals such as North Sea Jazz, LowLands, Paaspop or Oerol.
