Sister Sadie Strikes a New Chord with “Make Me Stay or Make Me Go”

Award-winning bluegrass band Sister Sadie, known for pushing the genre’s boundaries, presents a refreshing twist on their signature sound with their latest single, “Make Me Stay or Make Me Go.” Released by Mountain Home Music Company, this track channels the nostalgic spirit of 1990s country, a style that founding member Deanie Richardson describes as “sawing fiddles and a good ole line dance.”

Opening with rich acoustic arrangements, “Make Me Stay or Make Me Go” quickly shifts into high gear, introducing drums, a Telecaster’s twang, and the mournful pull of pedal steel. Lead vocalist Jaelee Roberts delivers an emotional plea with lines like:

Last night I put the top down
And drove to the edge of town

Why did I turn around?

Gena Britt’s banjo lines weave seamlessly with Maddie Dalton’s steady bass and harmony vocals by Dani Flowers. The track features guest musicians Mary Meyer on mandolin, Seth Taylor on guitar, Russ Pahl on pedal steel, and Catherine Marx on the Hammond B-3 organ.

Who didn’t love country music in the 90s?” asks Richardson. “I feel like it’s creeping around the corner again, too — at least I hope it is. This is all of us Sadies tipping a hat to the country music we love so much with our bluegrass instrumentation and some very talented friends to help.”
