Splendid Irish Folk Music Act Open The Door For Three Reveals “Billy from Bruff” Video

Irish traditional music trio Open The Door For Three has released an official video for “Billy from Bruff.” The song appears on the band’s new album, A Prosperous Gale.

Kieran O’Hare commented on the piece: “The trio learned the first jig from an Instagram clip of County Sligo flute players Michael Hurley and Paddy Healy, himself the source of this superior setting of The Geese in the Bog.

Liz excavated the second tune, Billy from Bruff, from the Joyce collection. It was notated in 1849, and it seems to be an earthier and tastefully-crafted ancestor of the jig Knocknagow.

A video made by Na Píobairí Uilleann in Dublin of Mick O’Brien is our source from Packie Russell’s, the third tune in the set. Packie’s brother, the great Micho Russell, called it ‘Come Into Town, My Fair Lady‘.”

The talented trio includes Liz Knowles on fiddle; piper Kieran O’Hare on bagpipes; and Pat Broaders on vocals and bouzouki.
