On Friday, October 4, Logan Square Auditorium in Chicago will host a performance by Luciane Dom, a multilingual singer, songwriter, and producer from Rio de Janeiro. Luciane is a prominent figure in contemporary Brazilian black music, mixing Afrobeat, jazz, reggae, and Ijexá in her performances.
Known for her dynamic stage presence, Luciane’s shows encourage audience participation through dance and song. She has previously performed at venues like Brasil Summerfest at Lincoln Center and was named Rising Star of the Year at the 2022 African Entertainment Awards. Her educational work includes masterclasses focusing on Afro-Brazilian candomblé and interactive sessions on traditional Brazilian rhythms such as samba, bossa nova, forró, axé, and maracatu.
Also performing is Gafieira Rio Miami, an 11-piece band led by Latin Grammy-winning bassist Diogo Brown. This group combines samba, jazz, and soul, drawing inspiration from “samba de gafieira,” a style rooted in 20th-century Rio de Janeiro ballroom dance music. Gafieira Rio Miami’s performances feature samba percussion, a swinging horn section, and the vocals of Isa Duarte. Their repertoire includes arrangements of classics by Brazilian icons like Gilberto Gil, Djavan, Caetano Veloso, and Jorge Benjor.
Doors open at 8 pm, with the show beginning at 9 pm at Logan Square Auditorium, located at 2539 N. Kedzie Ave.
